2012 & Theories of Cosmic Alignment

The news about the destruction of the world in 2012 has really shaken the world as more and more people are now interested in knowing about how their planet will be shattered into pieces by catastrophic events. To make it scarier, Hollywood came out with their own graphically enhanced movie 2012 which shows that the world will be crumbled into pieces in no time and that the tides will rise beyond imagination gulping down the human race till there is nothing left. However, is that really true or it is just an imagination of one man who wants to make maximum profit by entertaining the people and by showing them how destruction will welcome us in 2012. 

The controversy about the demolition of earth on December 21st, 2012 is now popular worldwide and there are many false stories revolving the cyberspace that tells you about the horrific death that you and I will die. However, did we ever take pains to know what exactly this 2012 is? I guess not because as humans are attracted to something really gossipy and that makes us scared. The year 2012 is nothing but the end year of the Long Count Calendar which was followed by the Mayans for so many years. 

Historians claimed that Mayans were the masters of time and great architects and therefore their calendar was based on the movements of all the planets and not only on the movements of sun, moon and the earth.  Mayan calendar included each and every planet which is in the Milky Way and as per them December 21st, 2012 is the last date of their Long Count Calendar. There has been no evidence that Mayans have ever warned that this date will be the last date on the Earth or that there will be any catastrophic events. 

On the other hand, many scientists have also determined that the year 2012 has many eclipses happening and that it is in this year that the earth will move from one solstice to another and that could somehow hamper the spinning movement of Earth. However, NASA has so far stated that they are not really sure if such an event will ever happen. Interestingly, those people who are from Mayan culture believe that the earth will always remain as it is but it is man-made problems like war and disease which can hamper the overall system of the planet.
